Superheroes

We have started our learning about Elliot the Midnight Superhero this week. On Monday we came into school dressed as a superhero of our own design. Our teachers were very impressed with the designs that we created! We have started to plan our stories that we will be sharing with children in Year 1.

Pizza!

We have been very busy this week designing and making pizzas. We learnt about what makes a balanced diet and then designed a pizza to demonstrate our knowledge. We will be writing instructions to share with our parents next week so watch this space!

Welcome to Year 2

What a brilliant first week we have had in Year 2. All of the teachers have been really impressed with how well children have settled into routines and they have been working really hard already. We have already tried lots of different types of food as part of our new project ‘Holy, Kitchen, Batman’ and we are looking forward to making pizzas next week!

Summer 2 week 4

This week in Year 2 we’ve been writing our our version of John Hare’s ‘Field Trip to the Moon.’ Instead of telling the story from the alien’s point of view, we are telling it from the astronaut’s point of view. We’ve enjoyed acting out the story and really thinking about the astronaut’s thoughts and feelings at different points in the story.

In Maths, we’ve been practising our measuring and have been having fun trying to find objects longer than and shorter than a metre long.

We’ve continued to read space stories. This week we have been reading ‘Man on the Moon – a day in the life of Bob’ by Simon Bartram. We’ve enjoyed trying to spot all the aliens hidden in the illustrations!

On Wednesday we visited year 6’s business project in the Eastwood playground. They’ve been busy creating stalls for us to spend our pocket money at. We had lots of fun!

Summer 2 week 3

This week we have been writing our own space stories and reading space stories written by other authors. We really enjoyed reading John Hare’s ‘Field Trip to the Moon’ which is written from the point of view of an alien! We are continuing to learn about Space and are looking forward to discovering more about the other planets in the Solar system.

Also this week, on Monday, we had a special visit from a charity called ‘Simon Says.’ They put on a special puppet show for us to help us understand loss and bereavement.

Summer 2 week 2

This week we have been finding out about Neil Armstrong. He is a significant person from history because he was the first person to walk on the moon. He was an American astronaut. In July 1969, nearly 50 years ago, Neil Armstrong and the Apollo 11  pilot, Buzz Aldrin, became the first people to land on the moon. They spent two and a half hours outside the lunar module while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command and sevice module. When Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon, he famously said “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”  Six hundred million people watched the first moon walk on TV. What else could you find out about Neil Armstrong?

Summer 2 week 1

On Monday night, an alien spaceship crash landed into our building site and an alien made its way into Olive base! When Mrs Richards arrived on Tuesday morning, she discovered strange, shiny green footprints across her room – from the window, to the floor and some were even on the ceiling! She also found hand prints and a note that was stuck to the ceiling!

The alien’s spaceship was damaged in the crash and was destroyed by the builder’s machinery so it asked us to help it build a spaceship so that it could get home.

We wrote witness accounts and made wanted posters. We had to draw what we thought the alien looked like. We spent the rest of the day building space ships for the alien to fly home in. It was great fun, but we hope the alien made it home safely!

Summer 1 week 4

This week year 2 have been very busy planning their own versions of the story ‘The Proud and Fearless Lion’. We are looking forward to drafting and publishing these next week!

We have also been getting ready for our SATS tests next week! We would like to wish all the children the very best. 🙂

Summer 1 Week 3

Year 2 this week have been learning all about animals and food chains! We have learnt how animals obtain their food and discussed terms such as producer, prey, consumer and predator. Test your child on these terms at home!

The highlight of the week was our trip to Longleat Safari Park! We had an amazing day seeing the link between our science learning and the animals. We saw a parrot play football, we went on a boat trip where we met some very hungry sea lions, we went into a bat cave and had bats fly right over our heads and some of us even held a real snake! Thank you for supporting this trip.
